As of May 25, Tailwind Air will enable passangers to fly out of Boston Harbor or Manhattan’s East River and land in Provincetown Harbor with a  trip that can reduce travel time by up to 60 percent. Part of that time-savings comes from the smaller facilities, and fewer crowds (each plane can seat eight passengers). Tailwind passengers can arrive for check-in as little as 10 minutes before departure.

This will be the first time such service is available.

“We are the only seaplane operator in the Northeast with scheduled commuter service, allowing a semi-private, super fast experience to hard-to-reach popular summer destinations, while also continuing to serve our core Manhattan to Boston Harbor customers,” said Peter Manice, director of Tailwind's Scheduled Service said in a statement to the press

The nonstop seaplane flight leaves from Boston Harbor’s Fan Pier Marina and lands in Provincetown Harbor, flights last approximately 35 minutes from dock to dock and include complimentary water taxi/launch service to and from the seaplane. Tailwind also offers nonstop and one-stop flights from Manhattan’s Skyport Marina  to Provincetown Harbor.

“We are excited to bring these new seasonal summer destinations to Bostonians and New Yorkers alike, in addition to our existing seasonal summer destinations from New York to East Hampton, Sag Harbor, Montauk, and Shelter Island, and Plymouth, Massachusetts.,” Manice said.

Tailwind Air’s turboprop seaplane fleet is less than five years old on average, but seaplane travel has a long history. For nearly 100 years, seaplane operations have been part of the transportation of coastal cities like Seattle, Miami, and Vancouver. The Manhattan Skyport opened in 1936.
